Grade 2 Trip - Grants dairy farm

03 May 2019
Grants Dairy Farm

Early Friday morning on the 3rd May the Grade 2 group embarked on the bus, ready to go to Grants Dairy Farm in Germiston. The children were in high spirits and sang songs until we reached our destination.

We received a warm welcome from Aunty Dalene and her amazing team.

We started the morning off by learning about horses and goats. (The children even had turns brushing down the magnificent horse.)

After our lesson we were divided into different groups.

Each group had a turn to make butter, Ricotta cheese, walk around the farm, feed the animals, and tour the milk factory.

We saw how the milk is pasteurised, how cream and yoghurt is made. The yoghurt was amazing! (Hmmm best taste ever and farm fresh)

Each learner had the opportunity to sample and take milk, butter and some cheese which they made home with them.

After our tour in and around the farm we had a super-duper burger lunch and juice.

To end off an already wonderful day the children went on a tractor ride and had an ice-cream before leaving to go back to school.

Back in the bus, some children laughing, others talking non-stop and some sleepy heads were reminiscing or dreaming about the trip.

Oh, what a fun day we had!

We will visit soon again!!!!
