Our school came to a joyful standstill as learners and teachers were swept away to the enchanting Joburg Theatre to watch Pinocchio the famous wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy and whose nose grows longer every time he tells a lie!
From the very first note, our Grade R learners were completely dazzled by the vibrant music and lively performances. To our surprise, they sang along to every song with such excitement that teachers couldn’t help but wonder when did they learn all the words? Then it dawned on us: the mind of a child is like a sponge and it eagerly and effortlessly absorbs everything around it. On our way back to school, the chatter was all about Pinocchio’s growing nose! One Grade Rb learner sincerely promised never to tell lies again, as he didn’t want his nose to grow long. He even added that he would listen to his teacher and work hard from now on!
