Spelling Bee 2015

12 June 2015

The 2015 CityKidz Spelling Bee took place in our school hall yesterday.

Lulama Gcuka Grade 6A out-spelled 41 other competitors to win the 2015 CityKidz Spelling Bee yesterday. She has been a very busy little bee indeed! Lulama correctly spelled the word “debris” in the 8th round to win the Bee. (The word may seem easy but it stumped several spellers because of its pronunciation) . To determine 2nd and 3rd place the two finalists had to participate in a few more rounds. 2nd place was awarded to Stevie Matenga Grade 4A and 3rd place was awarded to Kgothaso Malaoa Grade 5B.

Lulama Gcuka , Nothemba Larawu and Tawanyasha Kadango will represent CityKidz at the Johannesburg South District 2nd annual Spelling Bee competition at Townsview  Primary . We will keep you posted about the outcome.

Our Grade 6 finalists will go on to participate in the Wits Spelling Bee in July. We continue to encourage our Grade 6’s to study the provided list of words in preparation for the Wits Spelling Bee. This is a great opportunity for each learner to improve their spelling and have fun! A special thanks to Mrs Lorgat and Mrs Dube for encouraging our children to keep practising their words and making spelling so enjoyable.
