Character mask role playing

One of the most important factors that leads us to achieve anything in life is motivation, and nowhere is that more important than at home and in the classroom. While some learners are naturally eager to learn, others need their parents and teachers to inspire, challenge, and stimulate them. For those parents and teachers, motivating a learner is perhaps the greatest challenge they face.

Motivation is a key factor in learners’ success at every stage of their education, and both parents and teachers play a pivotal role in providing and encouraging it. Of course, that is much easier said than done, as all learners are motivated differently, and it takes time and a lot of effort to learn to get a classroom full of learners enthusiastic about learning, working hard, and pushing themselves to excel. For that reason, providing motivation is a skill that all parents and teachers must develop. The young child in reception year (Grade R or RR) depends mainly upon praise, encouragement and motivation.

It was during Saturday's report collection day  during a discussion with Nina Khumalo who is the mom of Princess in Grade Rb – put this into words perfectly ;  "A young child's mind is just like a sponge, the more water you add the more it expands and absorbs, as with children the more knowledge you feed at a tender age the more their insight and understanding develops. The words “expands and absorbs" are so true as children are impressionable and respond favourably to positivity. I hope and pray we can all go forward bearing in mind the huge responsibility we as adults have to make sure we are motivating the next generation of children around us and, hopefully, inspiring children to try something new and exciting every day.

Speaking of inspiring activities, the Grade Rb's made story time come to life as they role played stories using character masks. Not only were they excited, they had fun and re-called the events of the story. The applied themselves admirably and performed far better as compared to when I simply read it.

"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime."
