Grade 2 at the Pretoria National Zoo

30 April 2022
Grade 2 day at the Pretoria National Zoo

A fun-filled day to the zoo was planned for our Grade 2's. This tied in perfectly with our animal theme which we are beginning to explore in class.

Field trips always provide our children with a different learning experience, more practical, more realistic and far more exciting! Visiting a zoo brings human beings closer to various animals that we are not exposed to on a daily basis. It makes us develop an interest for all animals. Children get to learn so much about these animals during the visit. Our visit to the zoo allowed us to watch and learn about species of animals brought from foreign lands. We all learned about; how and where these animals live, their climates, eating habits as well as their habitats in which they thrive naturally.

As educators, it was fulfilling to watch our children's faces light up as soon as they got encounter all the different animals. The Grade 2’s waited in anticipation to witness a few of South Africa’s Big Five. To see a real leopard, lion, rhinoceros, buffalo and elephant was indeed a memorable experience! Walking through the slithering reptile park and scaly dragon enclosure had everyone shaking in their boots. A scary but interesting experience for one and all! Thankfully, we only got to witness our reptilian friends after filling our rumbling bellies with a nutritious lunch catered for by our very own school tuckshop.

Thank you Aunty Nozie. Thank you to our parents for always allowing and encouraging these learning experiences to happen. We appreciate your support. To our future zoologists, keep shining like bright-bright stars!, It was a fulfilling and educating day indeed- a perfect way to start our mid-term break. See you back on the 3rd May 2022!
