Grade 3 reading session

Excitement crackled in the air at CityKidz on Thursday morning as the Grade 3's buzzed with anticipation for a reading session. The children snuggled up with their furry friends, who also got a special invite to attend the event to listen to the reading.

Thursday wasn't your average school day, two special guests graced our four classes : Ms. Frayda Haberfeld, a friend to CityKidz and none other than sportsman cricketer and motivational speaker, Abdul Manack! Ms Frayda is known for her passion on our theme, Kindness. She was spurred on to share and read a beautiful, powerful story, The Invisible String by Patrice Karst.

The Invisible String's timeless message of connections and the universal theme of LOVE sparked our young children's imaginations. Freyda captivated the rapt audience with her animated reading of the story, they were transported to the world of the book and were left begging for more. The duo's message of connections was made even more memorable when they all joined in by connecting the red string. The energy of Abdul Manack a former South African first-class cricketer known for his awe-inspiring cricket moves also engaged with the children and gave words of encouragement. Abdul reinforced within our learners the value of being kind and the connection we create with others. After the special reading they went to the CityTotz centre.

A buzz was created when Ma'am Maria and Ma'am Fatima found the yellow plastic cricket bat for him to sign. They were mesmerized when he signed and wrote a special message on the bat. By the end of the day our children were not just buzzing with excitement; they buzzed with inspiration for reading and thoughts of spreading kindness. The story ignited a love for reading, and has shown our children that anything is possible and how important it is to show care and consideration for others. It was a day that would undoubtedly leave a lasting mark on our children.

Important lessons were learnt. Children were reminded the importance of kindness. Frayda reminded Grade 3 learners to appreciate special people in their lives, parents, teachers, siblings and family members. Frayda challenged Grade 3 learners to be smile ambassadors of the school. The 3rd graders are an important mission, to spread the happy and infectious emotion....a SMILE! So come on CityKidz family, let’s smile together with the Grade 3s!

We hope to have more encounters like this in the future. You see, we are one big family!
