It’s springtime at CityKidz and the school grounds are decked out in vibrant spring-themed decorations, creating the perfect backdrop for a day of fun and relaxation. The morning started off icy cold but warmed up, delivering an unforgettable celebration, brimming with mouthwatering braais, energetic music, spirited dancing and a dash of friendly competition.
How do they do it? The grade submissions of recycled bottle-top and tyre artworks were artistic, creative, inspirational and simply a joy to behold. Long hours of head-scratching, planning, then collecting and sorting bottle-tops, painting, trips to Main and Hardware and final touches lie behind the colourful creations that now adorn our school. Proof of CityKidz’ commitment to caring for the environment and making learning fun.
Position number one went to Grade 1. Their innovation won the judges over and moreover, the disappointed losers were made to feel better with a spoonful of kindness. Congratulations Grade One. Second place was taken by Grade 6, especially for the tyre chair. Third place went to Grade RR for their parent involvement and flowery creations. A commendation went to Grade Three for their entry and exceptional kindness message.
Soweto Classical Quintet keep the tunes flowing all day, along with acts from the winners of CityKidz Got Talent. Once again, Grade 5 stole the limelight with their traditional dance. Their dancing got many parents on their feet and joining in. The Cha-Cha kidz Chacha'd in their glittering outfits and brought smiles to the audience. Later, En Es Tee, Mr Siyanda, our very own bright star, entertaining the crowd to enthusiastic applause.
Since early morning the fires were going and sizzling with a variety of delicious meats, from juicy chicken, wors and smoky, savoury beef to perfectly grilled ribs. Ice-creams, hotdogs, cold drinks, chips and snacks were munched on throughout the day.
CityTotz learners bobbed up and down on the bouncy castles while older learners and parents listened to a talk on the dangers of smoking and then mingled, catching up with friends. It was lovely to see ex-learners return to have some fun, in particular, ex-head boy, Luka, who pitched in at the ice-cream stand. Spring Festival turned into a mini-holiday with many families enjoying the lively atmosphere and soaking up the festive spirit. Whether you call it Spring, Lente, Selemo, Entwasahlobo, Udunmiri, Rihlala, Dikgaologo or Tshilimo, a very happy celebration to you all. May the next year be filled with spring joy. See you all next year.
