On a bright and sparkling morning, our Grade RR and Grade R learners set off on a journey brimming with wonder, a magical adventure to Rietvlei Zoo. The air danced with excitement as little voices chattered and laughter bubbled, their eager faces pressed against the bus windows, ready to discover a world of animals, adventure and unforgettable moments.
As the bus rolled through the gates, the Zoo seemed to wake up just for us, birds calling from the trees, the breeze carrying the scent of fresh grass and the promise of adventure at every turn. The Grade Ra learners climbed aboard the little Zoo train, its cheerful whistle announcing the start of their ride. They waved like royalty as they chugged along, spotting animals and grinning from ear to ear. Not far away, the Grade Rb explorers soared through the sky on the zip line, their laughter ringing like bells. Meanwhile, the Grade Rc “little jockeys” trotted gently along on horseback, feeling the soft rhythm of hooves beneath them.
For our CityTotz, the morning held its own kind of magic. The first surprise? Meeting Zeus, the handsome, famous dog from the Oreo and Optimiser adverts. His friendly owner let us take a special photo and children couldn’t stop smiling. Then came the tractor ride, an adventure through a “mini jungle” where the world felt wide and wild. Tall trees swayed overhead, grass whispered in the wind and there wasn’t a single building in sight. For a moment, it was easy to imagine we were explorers deep in nature. The Totz also enjoyed climbing and sliding on the jungle gyms, taking a gentle walk to greet the ducks on the pond, and joining Ma’am Fatima to visit the farm animals. Along the way, they became keen little detectives, spotting a helicopter whirring far above and hearing the soft trickle of the brook. By the time the sun was high, our happy adventurers, tired but glowing with joy climbed back onto the bus and party packs in hand.
The ride home was filled with stories, sleepy smiles and the quiet hum of a day well spent. At CityKidz, we believe the world beyond the classroom is a magical place to learn and grow. Our trip to Rietvlei Zoo was more than a visit. It was a day of discovery, laughter and memories that will sparkle in our learners’ hearts forever.
