Grade 1 Trip Action Park

On Friday 16 September, CityKidz looked like a bus depot, a rare sight that had ecstatic Grade 1s exclaiming, so many busses! We knew that the day we all had been anxiously waiting for had finally arrived. We were the last Grade to board our bus. As soon as the driver turned the ignition on, little ones burst into song, "The wheels of the bus go round and round......".

Off we went, navigating our way through traffic and traffic lights that were out due to load shedding, but that did not put a dent on our smiles. Action Park was our destination, and we were ready for some action. Helping children stay physically active is essential to promoting healthy habits that last a life time. Action Park was the place to test the little ones' balance, agility and sense of adventure on the obstacle course that is on a raised platform.

Learners were excited and ready to go up , hold on to the rope, have fun and enjoy the Fourways view. Our acrophobic little ones were not reduced to mere spectators of the brave, the craze foam pit was a stone's throw away and they quickly jumped in it and the fun began. They had double fun practicing their aerial tricks and enjoying the freedom of flying through the air and landing in a soft cushion of cubes. Those who dreaded elevated heights also had fun on the water slide, sliding and catching bubbles in the process. Learners who went on the obstacle course were divided into groups of ten, guided by friendly guides namely Moses, Freddy, Matthew, Banele and Edwin. Obstacle courses improve memory and sequencing skills. Children develop strength and balance at a young age that may later transfer effectively to other sporting activities. We would like to thank the tour guides for their patience and words of encouragement. Our Grade 1s would not have done it without them. Words of encouragement like, ' you can do it big boy, big girls like you do not give up easily', were constantly whispered to the children through the entire course and most learners made it to the finishing point on time.

Well done to all Grade 1s who had their gross motor skills strengthened on that course, that was not an easy task. Many thanks to Gavin for hosting our CityKidz Grade 1's, our parents for supporting us through out and for their patience as they waited for the busses that arrived later than planned and not forgetting our CityKidz staff and Mrs Reynolds who made sure that everything ran smoothly without a glitch.
