Grade 7 Sexuality Talk

We are well aware that our youth are bombarded by messages on the internet and social media, as well as through movies and music. Unfortunately, along with the good, misinformation and misconceptions abound, and it is therefore important that we ensure that our learners are given correct information. To this end our Grade 7 learners had their Sexuality Talk at school today.

Ms Beauty Ngobeni from Senzakwenzeke Child and Youth Care Organisation was our special guest and speaker. The starting point of Ms Ngobeni’s talk was the changes boys and girls experience during puberty. Ms Ngobeni’s approach was friendly and informal and had our learners' full attention. Sexuality and the risks of engaging in premarital sex was also discussed. Ms Ngobeni encouraged the learners to practise abstinence and focus fully on realising their academic and life goals. She also encouraged the learners to talk to a trusted parent or parental figure around these personal but important issues. A lively question and answer session then followed. We would like to thank Ms Ngobeni for her lovely talk, and Mr Mgobhozi and Mrs Reynolds for facilitating this event, our learners benefited immensely from this experience.
